LabVIEWTM Weather Station

The new Datataker weather station application has been created to demonstrate the features and benefits of combining dataTaker data loggers with the LabVIEW development environment.

LabVIEW is a programming language created by National Instruments. It has a wide range of tools, functions and graphics, allowing you to offer fully customised data logging solutions. There are also a range of tool kits allowing support for web servers, databases, signal analysis, and creating custom reports.

In addition to the network of integrators experienced in LabVIEW, many research and educational institutions use LabVIEW extensively. The dataTaker data logger offers a flexible, robust data logging solution for most of these users requirements.

Some of the features we highlight with the weather station application are:

Low Power

The weather station is Solar powered, demonstrating the low power
consumption of the dataTaker data loggers. There is also back up power  available, demonstrating the control capabilities of the logger, in case the Solar system battery voltage is too low.

Flexible User Inputs

A typical weather station has a wide range of sensor types. This demonstrates the wide range of sensor support offered by the dataTaker data loggers.  There is built in signal conditioning and input channels can be reconfigured at any time in software.

Remote Applications

The weather station is a good example of the remote capabilities of the dataTaker data loggers. Designed for standalone applications with local data storage and memory overwrite modes, internal back up battery and control capability. The LabVIEW application provides user defined remote access to data and control functions.

Statistical Analysis

The wind rose is a good data reduction example utilising the built in statistical functions of the dataTaker data logger and the presentation features of LabVIEW. Alarms, scaling, polynomials, averages and histograms are all used with the weather station.

Communications

A dataTaker data logger has a range of communication options available, ideal for remote applications with support for modems, Radio Modems, Ethernet, and RS232  communications. The weather station application uses Ethernet and web capabilities.
